Today I’m going to review Breath into the shadow the super-hit psychological thriller that is super trending on Amazon Prime. This show has been like a comeback for Abhishek Bachchan and features a versatile star-cast. Let’s know more about the series and my review on it!

Breathe: Into the Shadows Review

Breathe: Into the Shadows, an Amazon Original casting Abhishek A. Bachchan, Amit Sadh, Nithya Menen is rated 7.7/10 on IMDb with the genre drama and thriller. The series is a digital debut of Abhishek A. Bachchan who plays Avinash Sabharwal, a psychiatrist. Nithya Menen plays his wife’s role and a chef who is a mother to a six-year-old girl named Siya.

Siya, who is diabetic and needs regular insulin shots. Gets kidnapped by an anonymous man at a friend’s birthday party. who then blackmails the couple by sending boxes of threats that demand to kill people on the basis of their sinful acts of lust, anger, fear, ego, and so on. This is everything the story revolves on.

What happens next?

Her father, Avinash, risks his life and kills other people in order to save his daughter, as instructed by the masked kidnapper. Amit Sadh plays Kabir Sawant (connecting the dots to Season-I named Breathe) as an inspector working on the case of “Missing Siya”.

The couple turns out to act so practical about their daughter being kidnapped and not found for months that it becomes hard to understand their pain which makes you want to watch more of it. Basically, it is a psychological thriller, the storyline revolves around their 6-year-old daughter being kidnapped and that the couple is compelled to take up crime in order to save her.

Critics Review

Breath into the shadow could have reached a rating of 8 with a slightly less stretch which was not necessary as the scene was getting more and more predictable with each episode. While there are reviews that declare the series to be inept and bizarre, but according to my point of view the director, Mayank Sharma did a commendable job bringing up the Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) which was previously known as Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD), a disorder that affects mental health and the fact that the show- Breathe: Into the Shadows is being criticized despite focusing on an important mental health issue that needs a talk therapy and creating awareness about it shows that how much awareness is still needed.

More about the series

Breath into the shadow also gave importance to empowering women by showing females playing roles of women loving women, a happy and cheerful girl on a wheelchair, a bold female cop, women freely working and driving all night, and many more. Abhishek A. Bachchan being the protagonist as well as an antagonist also did a wholesome job and is the soul of the show.

The 12 episodes are a roller coaster ride of multiple predictions of “what’s going to happen next?” and is crafted rightfully joining past to present piece by piece. All the other supporting actors chose also made a proper fit to the character they played with a decent screening.

Talking about the actor who comes out to be an actor in a supporting role, Amit Sadh, should have been the real protagonist of the show being shown as the inspector with a highly bold and gold personality and commendable performance which was superior to any lead actor on the show. The show could have made more sense if the lead preference was Sadh.

Just a tip

Few things in Breath into the shadow that will make you not watch the show are the number of times the dialogues being repeated, just to make sure that the viewers should remember that the young girl is still missing after a month, six months, nine months, and so on.

In between these months, there is not even a single clue of the girl and nor the kidnapper has contacted the couple. One day, all of a sudden, the mystery box shows up at the door with a video framing the two girls kidnapped.

Another point of not wanting to watch the show is the handicapped girl in a wheelchair being friends with Amit Sadh i.e. Kabir Sawant which creates a completely side story having no relevance to the ongoing conflict in the protagonist’s life.

Final Conclusion

Overall, if you want to kill the time in the pandemic, this show is it, it will turn out to be a great binge watch. It is engaging and the ending makes you wonder what will happen in the next season.
